My mother called me on Saturday morning when Larry and I were in Monroeville. She told me that my grandmother was found in her house dead, from falling down the stairs and breaking her neck. It just can happen that quickly.

I was thinking about the days of my youth when I used to go horseback riding with my friends. The one girl Ana and I went with was Diana. She had grown up going to horsecamp every weekend. We decided as a fad to do it. I learned that ponys were not baby horses, that they were their own species. To this day, that boggles my mind because for so long I thought ponys were babies. Nope, just dwarfs. I remember Ana's mother bought her an expensive helmet, one of those white horseback riding helmets. I was to jealous cuz I had to wear the one that matched my black Schwinn (with blue paint made to look like it was splatered on it). Ana had her bday party at the ranch and we got to take the carriage ride with the horses we had learned to ride. Go figure. The big thing to do, the thing to master was cantoring. Its when the horse is between a gallop and a trot. It's really beautiful and graceful. I experienced it once on Ron. See, we got to pick horses at the beginning of the morning and Ron was my favorite. I only lost out on picking him once when someone else took him. He was a shiny milk chocolate brown with a dark brown mane. The only other horse name I recall was Trojan cuz it was funny. I remember it was sad when a horse died on the ranch. I had totally forgotten about this part of my life until yesterday when I rushed off of the metro and onto the bus for work. I wanted to make sure it was written down.
